The project
The project concerns the demolition and reconstruction of the bridges over San Girolamo river (new span of 132 m) and over Masone Ollastu river (new span of 41 m), at km 12+650 and 13+250 respectively, on the national road 195 “Sulcitana”, in Capoterra (CA) Commune, one of the most important roads in the south of Sardinia, and the plano-altimetric connection of the intermediate section, consisting of a single lane with two traffic lanes. These works are part of the overall hydraulic works on S. Girolamo and Masone Ollastu rivers, affected by the floods of October 2008, carried out by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia to make them safe by channelling them from upstream to the river influx. Reconstruction of the bridges on the SS195, which cross the two rivers near their influxes, is necessary to adapt them to the conditions required for spans and the free passage level imposed by the new hydraulic compatibility study drawn up by the Region of Sardinia for the general modernization and safety works in the area affected by the two watercourses. In addition to the two new bridges, two hydraulic footbridges, seven reinforced concrete walls, a 230-meter-long open channel with a 7-meter span, approximately 1,500 meters of new C-type carriageway will be constructed with a 4 meter level rise and the inclusion of three new roundabouts, as well as approximately 1,000 meters of new carriageway for local traffic.
